OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators issued the following statement on the death today of 14-year-old Daron Richardson, youngest daughter of Senators assistant coach Luke Richardson:
“The Ottawa Senators family extends its sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to Luke, his wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Morgan, on the passing of Daron. This is a great tragedy for the Richardsons, their family and friends. The club will offer all the support it can to Luke and his family.”
There was an accident at their home yesterday and Daron tried to take her life by hanging. Her mother found her in the basement, and Daron was rushed to the hospital by ambulance where she remained in critical condition in ICU until she succumbed to her injuries. As per the family's wishes, Daron's last act will be to donate her organs to identified recipients in need.
Funeral arrangements will be announced once details are finalized.
